The original lid and straw was covered in a soft, silicone type sipper that was easily chewed and torn off. The lid also leaked, so it would stay moist all day. So I bought the replacement which is a hard plastic. I'd hoped it would last longer, but the little lever that helps to open the lid easily breaks off. So I guess next year, we'll be looking into something different for my primary school kids
