I bought this as it's one of very few bags that can be carried the right way up so that food containers are not sitting vertically. There is a lot of flexibility as it is expandable so some days we use it in it's expanded state and some days we don't.
We can fit my kid's lunch, morning tea, fruit containers and cutlery with room to spare, especially since the ice packs get their own section and don't take up any room in the lunch bag. I haven't had to wash the bag yet, so am unsure as to how it will hold up but overall, very happy with this purchase.
