Looking for an easy lunchbox idea that takes just a few minutes to throw together? These Vegemite and Cheese Twists are always a winner.
Made with just four simple ingredients, they're crispy, cheesy and packed with that classic Vegemite flavour Aussie kids know and love. They're perfect for lunchboxes, afternoon snacks, picnics or making ahead to keep in the freezer for those busy weeks.
If you've already got a sheet of puff pastry in the fridge, you're halfway there!
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry
- Vegemite
- Grated cheese
- 1 egg, beaten
Method
1. Preheat your oven to 200°C and line a baking tray with baking paper.
2. Spread a thin layer of Vegemite over the puff pastry.
3. Sprinkle generously with grated cheese.
4. Cut the pastry into even strips.
5. Twist each strip a few times and place onto the prepared tray.
6. Brush each twist with beaten egg.
7. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until puffed and golden.
Allow to cool slightly before serving.

- These twists freeze beautifully. Simply cool completely, freeze in an airtight container and pop one straight into the lunchbox in the morning.
- Feel free to use your favourite grated cheese. Tasty, cheddar or mozzarella all work well.
- Make them mini by cutting thinner strips for younger kids.
- They taste just as good warm or cold, making them perfect for lunchboxes.
